Brand photos for Family-run cafe in Honley, West Yorkshire
I had been asked to create some brand photography for the family-run cafe in Honley, The Gallery Cafe. The reason for this shoot was for their Honley business listing. I headed over to see them one morning as soon as they opened but I could tell this wasn’t the right time for a photo shoot. I discussed with John and Elizabeth the owners a little plan to make the shoot work.
If it isn’t right, don’t shoot it
I am someone who cares massively about my photo shoots, I want them to be right and it didn’t seem like the best representation to photograph a cafe with no people in. I suggested that they invite some of their best customers to come in one day just after closing, that way we had consent and we could create some fab imagery.
One thing I forgot to mention is this shoot would be in the school holidays when I was looking after my kids so obviously it would be rude to not bring them along. As soon as I walked in there was a much more vibrant atmosphere than before. John and Elizabeth were in the kitchen cooking up treats for everyone to eat and for me to photograph. First out was a delicious Icecream Sundae, which magically found its way to one of my daughters. Then other delights came out like teas, coffees, waffles, cake, paninis, burgers and my favourite which I was slightly jealous of was the full English. Everyone tucked into their food whilst I photographed them.
It’s always about the people
The Honley project which I do is always about people, I use people to tell the story. Although I could have just done typical food photography I wanted to make sure I captured people enjoying the food and capturing the essence of The Gallery Cafe. The shoot only took about 30 minutes in total and everyone enjoyed their food including my kids which was an added bonus.
