Brand photography in Wakefield for Purple Pebble People
A few weeks ago I headed over to Wakefield, West Yorkshire to photograph the fabulous Ali Carruthers-Illingworth who runs the great Purple Pebble People. Let’s just say I am no stranger to photographing Ali as I have photographed her in lots of business settings and I even photographed her wedding so it was great to catch up.
Chatting and photographing
Often when I’m photographing people on personal brand photo shoots I have to spend about the first five to ten minutes building a rapport and getting people used to the camera, this wasn’t the case with Ali as I had photographed her so many times, it was just old friends catching up with each other. In fact, I ended up just chatting and nearly even forgot to photograph which I guess wouldn’t have been the best idea.
As I have already mentioned I have photographed Ali and Purple Pebble People loads of times so we already have that trust, in fact so much trust that my brief was just three words that were bright, vibrant and tactile. Before I arrived I knew that I wanted to capture Ali in her home as I know that there are always loads of bright colours and fabulous furnishings so I set to work in her kitchen. In fact, Ali when she is doing a video she always has a brew in her hand as a bit of a comfort blanket so I knew I wanted to capture that picture.
All my photoshoots are always fun but there gets to a point usually about fifteen minutes into the shoot where the shoot becomes fun. The client is completely relaxed and I’m in full flow and this was the same case with this shoot. We ended up photographing Ali with her dog Sherlock in various rooms in her house and even her home office. When doing a brand shoot I’m always looking out for ways to maximise the number of pictures that my clients can use, I’m always asking about what they need for social media for the next six months, images for their website and any other marketing communications.
Change of clothes
I am always happy for my clients to have changes of clothes on my photo shoots and in fact, I actually encourage it. The beauty of photographing Ali in her home was that she had the opportunity to have some wardrobe changes. It’s great to be able to maximise the usage of the photos so having some costume changes always helps. Everywhere I looked when I was in Ali’s home or garden office I saw photo opportunities and obviously because I know her well I knew exactly what would make great pictures.
I am really looking forward to seeing how Ali uses her pictures, I know that they are going to be a large part of her social media and I love to see how people use the pictures that I photograph. I know Instagram and Linkedin will be full of pictures.
Overall it was a fabulous photo shoot. It was great to catch up with Ali again and I think we captured some fabulous pictures.
