Brand photography in Wakefield, West Yorkshire with Grant Saunders Comedy Hypnotist

Photographing Grant Saunders, Hypnotist in Ossett, Wakefield
I had a fantastic time photographing my good friend and amazing hypnotist Grant Saunders when he performed his show in Ossett, Wakefield. I have known Grant for ages and he has turned out to become a really good friend of mine so I was really looking forward to watching his show.
Seize the moment
For my evening I had every intention of watching Grant’s show but I thought it would be nice for me to take a few photographs for him. I never intended to photograph the whole show. Grant had a little chat with me before the show and I told him my plan. He then showed me around backstage. I actually realised, when would I get the opportunity to have an all-access pass at a show so I decided that I would photograph the whole thing.
Tell the story
As a documentary photographer, all I ever want to do is tell the story. My aim is to capture amazing pictures which show the story. I knew that Grant had lots of pictures of his shows from the front but he had never had John Steel all-access pictures so I set myself a challenge to create pictures that were unique.
I always come second
When I am photographing any show, conference, wedding or event I am very aware that it’s not the John show. My aim is to capture fantastic pictures, but not get in the way. Paying members of the public do not want me in the way and I am very aware of this.
Know what’s coming
This was actually the second time that I had seen Grants’ show. Having that knowledge was invaluable as I had a good idea of which acts would get the best pictures. It also helps that Grant is a good friend and he knows how I operate so it didn’t throw him when I appeared under curtains or at somebody’s feet.
It takes time to warm up
Photographing a show isn’t easy, especially when the lighting is purple so I knew that the better pictures would come in the second half of the show. I actually used the first part of the show for the people on stage to get used to me popping up. Actually, I forgot they were under hypnosis but it was great to get used to everything. I also knew what was in store for the second half of the show.
Enjoyable
Believe it or not, I still love photography and any time that I get the opportunity to get a backstage pass and all access I will jump at it. I love some of these pictures as I know they are very unique and Grant will get loads of usage out of them. If you get the opportunity to go and see Grant then make sure you do as you will not be disappointed.
I loved this, I would have enjoyed watching the show but I knew that this would be more of a unique experience.
If you are a performer and you want some fabulous, unique images then please get in touch with me.
