Carpet Clearance Centre, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire

Last week I had a a photoshoot at Carpet Clearance Centre in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. The fab people at Social Progress in Honley asked if I could go in and shoot some pictures as they are creating a new website for the Carpet Clearance Centre.
I love telling a businesses story
I love jobs like this where I go into a business with a very small brief so I have a lot or creative control. I arrived and met the Mike and his fab team who immediately made me a brew (a good start) after a bit of chatting it was straight into work mode. When working with design agencies I know they like to have lots of options so I started to shoot lots of pictures of the various carpet rolls which make fabulous colours and textures for a website. Starting like this also helps me get a good feel of the place as I’m also observing whilst shooting.
People buy from people
My style of photography is all about people, I use employees to help tell the story of the business. The next part of the shoot was capturing the staff working, the shop was a little quiet so I just asked what duty’s they do. I captured the whole process of them preparing a new carpet for the shop. When I do this I just ask them to do what they do but a little slower than usual. Once I had enough photos of the lads it was time to take a few headshots / environmental portraits of everyone.
Environmental portraits are great so it was the obvious move to just take some pictures against carpets. So, I set up a quick light and two minutes later the pictures had been done. I also had to do a quick shot of the team, so once again using the environment was the easiest and most effective way to do this.
Finally, the brief had asked for a few shots of their new van. I knew that there was no place to be able to shoot what Social Progress required in the location where I was so a quick drive over to somewhere with a backdrop and the shoot was done. Here’s just some of the pictures that I shot on this half-day shoot.
