Eden Forest, Honley, West Yorkshire
Capturing natural images for the Honley website
A few weeks ago I headed over to the hidden Eden Forest in Honley, West Yorkshire. Eden Forest is amazing outdoor learning, bushcraft and well-being space which has been created in some woodlands. I was gobsmacked when I saw the facilities of a round-house and fire pit and other areas, it’s amazing to find things like this on the doorstep.
I was really looking forward to this shoot and wish I could have stayed longer but I knew I was against the clock as I had another shoot planned straight after.
I had been asked to photograph the Friday’s group. This group had been together for quite some time and had bonded really well. When I arrived I noticed all of the chaps just sat on chairs around the fire, having brews and chatting. This is a really important part of the process as it’s a great bonding opportunity. I said hello to everyone and then just got snapping away.
The king of Huddersfield
I had just got into snapping and for some reason all of the chaps started talking about rugby. I then turned around and I saw the infamous Eorl Crabtree walking towards everyone. I seem to see Eorl everywhere I go, so it was good to see him. But, in true Eorl style he just chatted to everyone and I then just got back to capturing everyone.
There are always activities scheduled and the mornings activities were yoga in the woods, foraging and making wreaths. The chaps split into separate groups and just cracked on with it. It was a really nice feeling in the woods, a sense of calm and it was great to see everyone getting on with it.
As I was only there just over an hour, I just wanted to say hello and have a laugh with a few folk. I know everyone there has a very deep back story and I would really love to get involved with the project. It would be brilliant to get a real deep look into the people that are there, but that’s for another day. As Arnold said “I’ll be back”!
