Family photography, Harrogate North Yorkshire

Fun with the Grundy family
Ages ago, I headed over to Harrogate, North Yorkshire to have a family photography session with the fabulous Grundy family. It was great to meet up with Jon and Kimberley who’s wedding I had previously photographed. It was great, no awkwardness or anything, straight into conversation. It was also lovely to meet their daughter who I hadn’t met before (I never give kids names out on my blog).
Never work with kids and animals
Whoops, it looked like I broke the number one rule, oh well rules are there to be broken. I absolutely love doing family shoots where people bring their pets along. Kimberley owns the fabulous Pooches Galore so is pretty good when it comes to dogs. They have 2 little doggies and obviously, they came along as they are part of the family.
A little wander
We had arranged to meet at some wooded area which is a regular dog walking route for the family. When I do shoots like this, I try to keep them as natural as possible, I want to blend in and just capture what’s happening. I’m always aware that sometimes we need to do a few poesy (ish) photos just to capture everyone but I always try and make the sessions fun and not too weird.
Muddy
Every time I come back from a shoot I’m caked in mud and this shoot was no different. A wise man once said “if I don’t come back filthy, I haven’t done my job” John Steel, 2020. It’s true though, I have no issue or hesitation in getting in rivers or laying in mud as I just expect to do this.
One hour and done
The shoot in total took about one hour, that was just walking around at a leisurely place, having a laugh and capturing moments, nothing forced or uncomfortable. I could tell that people were getting a little chilly and they were ready to leave so that’s the time to call it a day. It was a great morning and we got some fab pictures of the day.
Here are some of my personal favourites.
