Family photography, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire

Family photography and photographing my kids is one of my favourite things to do. During this lockdown period, I’ve really enjoyed getting out and taking pictures of my kids. It’s actually made me realise how important family photography is so I’ll certainly be pushing forward when we’re allowed. This week my friend Gareth set me a challenge to make the pictures that I take of my kids look different to previous weeks so challenge accepted. I thought how could I do this? I’m doing similar activities with them with homeschooling, trampolining, bike riding, water fights etc so what could I do?
The challenge
My kids often take a lot of convincing to have their pictures taken so I knew timing would be the key. One day I decided that I would get some lights out and to take some fun portraits. My youngest C loves dressing up and has loads of dressing up costumes so I just persuaded her to dress up as different characters. D, on the other hand, is 8 and doesn’t have any dressing up kit so took a little bit more convincing. I was restricted to the garden so I just wanted to keep the background cluttered free as possible.
My youngest went first and came out dressed as one of the many Disney Princesses, it took a little bit of time for her to relax but as soon as I showed them how great the pictures were looking I got them on side. It was loads of fun, the kids loved it! My eldest got really creative with the props making costumes like a box for a robot, an alien and even Hermoine Granger. It was loads of fun, I don’t really get my big lights out but it certainly was a great way to waste an hour.
