Emma and Josh, DIY wedding, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire

Back in August 2018, I had the pleasure of photographing Emma and Josh's DIY wedding in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. To say that I was looking forward to this wedding was an understatement, I've said it loads of times before but I absolutely LOVE DIY weddings.  I think it's just knowing that everything that has been created has been picked and often made by the bride and groom. Josh the groom is a farmer and they had decided that they would hold their wedding in a marquee on one of his fields a stone throw away from their family home.

I met a very excited bride down at Coco North, Huddersfield where Emma and team bride were getting their makeup done. There was a real buzz in the air.  We then headed over to Emma's family home for the rest of the morning. I never underestimate how important little things like this to a bride means. Emma probably dreamt so many times of what it would be like to leave her family home as a bride. In fact, there was one particular picture that Emma asked me to shoot and it was her looking out of the window at the top of the stairs as this is something she had dreamed of for a long time.

The bride jumped in Josh's grandad's E-Class Mercedes (again it's the little things that matter) whilst team bride jumped in a fab split screen VW Camper van and headed over to Christ Church, New Mill, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire where the ceremony was held. The ceremony was lovely, very emotional with lots of meaning and the bride and grooms son did a fantastic job of delivering the rings.  After the church, it was straight over to the reception venue, the marquee looked stunning, I had already photographed the night before as I only live 10 mins away so knew the couple would appreciate me to do that.  When we arrived there were beers in tractor bucket, Matt Baxter a guitar dude singing and an overall fab atmosphere.  The bride wanted a couple of pictures with the VW camper van before it left which I did gladly.  Whilst photographing this picture I noticed that Josh's face changed, I could see that something was happening. I looked to the side and noticed a run-away car. One of team groom was running after the car and trying to open the door. It was actually like a scene from Only Fools and Horses or Some Mothers do have em. It was a surreal moment and everything went into slow motion. The car picked up speed and collided into a stone wall, then all of a sudden Josh's cows started to escape.

Meanwhile back at the wedding, Emma, the bride had started to sing Valerie whilst Matt Baxter strummed away on his guitar, she was having her own little pop concert. Everyone else mingled and got on with the afternoon enjoying themselves. There was a little area set up for kids and the adults could indulge in some drunk welly wanging. It was a perfect outdoor wedding. In the marquee, they had entertainment from Kaye Dyson the magician who were wowing the crowds.

The speeches were very funny and also emotional and then everyone sat down to eat their beef dinner. It was actually one of Josh's cows that he had prepared for the meal so once again another personal touch. In the evening it was party time! Everyone got drunk, some got very messy and lots of dancing went down.

I absolutely loved this wedding. Congratulations Emma and Josh and thank you for allowing me to be your photographer.
