Kate + Allan - Wortley Hall, Sheffield
I always feel very privileged when my friends ask me to photograph their weddings and Kate and Allan's wedding at Wortley Hall, Sheffield was no exception. Allan is one of the owners of Wedding Fayre's Yorkshire who host some of the finest wedding fayres around so he meets weekly at least 5 different photographers, so for them to choose me to photograph their wedding was a big deal and I didn't take this lightly (no pressure then).
It was my first time photographing a wedding at Wortley Hall, Sheffield and I always love going to new venues. I met up with Kate and team bride in the morning which was a good laugh, I've never seen anyone ironing sat on the floor before. Team bride was very excited and I could tell it was going to be a fabulous day. One thing that stood out very early on was the use of colour! I love a colourful wedding and there was so much colour on display. The best wedding florists in the world (in my opinion) Down To Earth Florists had done an amazing job creating beautiful colourful bouquets and lots of other displays (you can tell this is my area of expertise). Also notable was the amazing cake that Linda Hoffman had created again it was very colourful. Finally, the decor was stunning and the company whose name I've forgotten and I know Kate will kill me when she reads this and I'll rectify it if I'm still alive did a fabulous job. Kate also had unicorn (yes they are real) coloured hair which was ACE!
The ceremony took place at the St Leonards church which is just a couple of minutes walk from Wortley Hall, I met up with Allan and the boys who were in good spirits. The vicar dude was also pretty relaxed which is always a bonus. The ceremony was fabulous, I nearly fell over which made everyone laugh (I usually have really good ninja skills). One thing that I did notice with this wedding was how close all the guests were to each other, it was very easy to see how important friends and family are to Kate and Allan. Allan is also a DJ so during the drinks reception he had created a great playlist and the tunes were banging out, it's always great to have some music at this time as it really adds to the atmosphere.
On to the speeches, wow! They were pretty emotional, in fact, I was nearly in tears (honest). I loved them, if I can capture pictures of a groom crying then I'm always happy.
Without being sexist I find that the majority of weddings are usually organised by the bride and it was easy to see this was the case. Whoops, how wrong was I. When I walked into the room where the evening do/party was taking place it was quite evident that this was Allan's baby. Allan had gone full nightclub mode! I mentioned earlier that he was a DJ he also has his own entertainments company and he'd gone bonkers. There was a stage, lighting rig, lasers, loads of lights and pretty much everything else for that perfect night club. For the evening entertainment, Allan had booked the band Ultimate Groove whos'soulful tunes did a great job of getting the party in full swing. After the band, it was DJ time and they had an amazing DJ that just got everyone up dancing. Kate's a bit of a boy band fan and she knew all the moves to all of the songs "Everybody get up singing 1, 2, 3, 4, Five will make you get down now" or something like that not that I know the words in any way as I'm too cool for school.
The day was absolutely fabulous, all the guests were great people and it was a very special day that I was very privileged to photograph.
Congratulations Kate and Allan, thanks for choosing me.
