River Holme Connections, Honley, West Yorkshire

On Saturday I headed out to photography River Holme Connections in Honley, West Yorkshire. This was for their third Saturday Volunteering work party. I headed down to Spa Wood in Lockwood, Huddersfield to meet everyone.
On arrival, I headed down the path for a good half a mile before I came across a bunch of volunteers helping clear the bath. I went into a documentary, storytelling mode and tried to capture some images of people, digging, brushing, chopping to ensure the path was visible. It was really funny as every time I started trying to photograph someone they turned the other way.
As my usual style of photography wasn’t working I had to go into sniping mode. Fortunately I had brought my long lens with me so from a distance I captured the pictures that I needed. Once I had got enough pictures I headed back to the start to see another group of volunteers working away. I grabbed a few pictures of these people before a couple of quick portraits.
The image in my head
Before heading down to the shoot, I knew that the main image that I required was a quick portrait of the main man Simon down by a river. I waited until it was break time and then just asked if he would head to a little spot that I had found just so I could grab a few pictures of him.
It was great to see so many people in the Honley community out and about to help River Holme Connections do their fantastic work.
