Steph and Matt’s wedding at Spicer Manor, South Yorkshire

Spicer Manor wedding photography for Steph and Matt

A couple of weeks ago, I headed over to the fabulous Spicer Manor in South Yorkshire to photograph Steph and Matt’s wedding. Everyone knows that Spicer Manor is my favourite wedding venue, so I know my way around.

I met up with Matt, the groom, who was pretty chilled, drinking a beer in the kitchen before heading up to the cinema room to see Steph. Everyone was extremely relaxed, but I could sense the excitement in the atmosphere.

I spent my time capturing guests between the cinema room, the kitchen, and the games room. The boys decided to jump in the hot tub, so it was an interesting morning.

Soon, it was time to rock. The guests all headed to the coach house. We did a first look with Dad at the bottom of the stairs, which was a lovely moment. It was time for the ceremony. The brilliant James Lomas was tinkling the ivories and entertaining the guests with beautiful piano music. I could see that Matt had started to get a little nervous, which is usually the way. The ceremony was lovely, short but sweet.

After the ceremony, all the guests lined up to chuck confetti at the bride and groom, and we got some excellent confetti faces, which is always good. The Yorkshire weather had decided that wind was going to be the order of the day, so we headed inside for the reception. Bradleys Catering was, as always, on hand to provide beautiful canapes. Spicer Manor is unlike other venues, and it caters for both inside and outside receptions.

After the canapes, we went through the list of group pictures and used the beautiful staircase as a background while James provided the soundtrack, which was slightly different from the usual formals.

The speeches took place before the wedding breakfast. The speeches were great; some were emotional and funny, and the atmosphere was fantastic. After the main course, there was a little surprise. The bride and groom had arranged for the singing servers, which only they knew about, so Tom (I think that was his name and James Lomas) got all of their guests singing, dancing and even doing a conga around the room. I have always loved photographing singing waiters, and it’s the perfect entertainment for any wedding.

After the meal, I had five quick minutes to whisk the bride and groom to the front for a portrait session. Matt and Steph are like my usual clients and don’t particularly like their pictures being taken, but a five-minute bit of fun resulted in some cracking pictures.

The fabulous DJ Matty Blakey jumped on the decks for the evening, and he did a brilliant job keeping people dancing.

The wedding was fantastic, just how a wedding should be.

Congratulations to Steph and Matt, and thank you for asking me to photograph your wedding.
