Wakefield Waterton Park wedding photography
Alice in Wonderland themed Wedding, Waterton Park, Wakefield Gemma and Dan
I headed over to Waterton Park, Wakefield for Gemma and Dan’s wedding, I was very excited as I knew it was an Alice in Wonderland theme. I arrived to a very excited team bride, Alice in Wonderland was playing on the Ipad and I realised I’ve never actually seen the film (note to self, watch it)! I was amazed by Gemma’s bouquet, I’ve never seen anything like it, it was some creative jewelled masterpiece which weighed a fair bit. During bridal prep, I had a wander over to the reception room and I could certainly see that Gemma had gone to town on the Alice in Wonderland themed bits. Gemma does have a background in art and it was clear to see that she had skills with making wired creations. There was a Cheshire Cat, Mad Hatter, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, a caterpillar, dormouse, trees, teapots and pretty much everything else that you could imagine! It was ACE!
The bridal prep was pretty chilled but then there’s always that moment when things just go crazy the time just jumps and then you have stressed registrars knocking at the door (don’t get me started about my feelings for registrars). Fortunately, team bride and the wedding planner from Waterton Park (who was brill) managed to team up, put and help Gemma get ready. The ceremony room looked stunning with blossom trees, more Alice in Wonderland wired creations and leaves everywhere and candlelit (always interesting for photography). Dan the groom was a little nervous but still excited to see his bride. One thing I found out the hard way was that the candles in the trees were actually candles and not just flickering lights, I only found out when I actually burned my ear on them (hahaha) no harm done.
After the ceremony, we headed outside for some bubbles. Who needs confetti when you have a bubble machine? Then it was the usual mingling, I walked around photographing happy and smiling people, did a few group shots and just captured the day. After the reception, it was time for the speeches. They were really nice, short and sweet and to the point, no dodgy jokes from the internet just honest nice things said which is always the best way.
We had been blessed with beautiful weather so after the meal people took advantages of the outdoor games on offer. Limbo was a massive hit and loads of fun. Here’s some advice if you are going for garden games just go with limbo, space hoppers and sack races! It was nice to see that the bride and groom got stuck into the limbo and that always makes fantastic pictures. Then we decided to take advantage of the weather and have fifteen minutes for a few portraits of the bride and groom which is always fun. I did get a bit of a shock when Gemma’s sister just appeared in one of the pictures in full Mad Hatter dress, it was great! Waterton Park has a pretty iconic bridge so it would have been rude not to have used this so that appeared in some of the portraits.
In the evening it was a quick move to relocate to The Boat House and it was PARTY time. The DJ played a good selection of tunes to get folk on the dancefloor. One of the most popular tunes was YMCA which is always great to get people up dancing.
Thanks very much to Dan and Gemma for booking me to photograph your fab wedding day!
