Wedding photography, Woodman Inn, Thunderbridge, Huddersfield,

A few months ago, I headed to the fabulous Woodman Inn in Huddersfield West Yorkshire to photograph Olivia and Kyle’s wedding. I arrived at the Woodman Inn, quite early as I do like to photograph the bridal preparations (if that’s what the bride and groom want). Olivia was very excited and slightly nervous, but everyone was keeping her calm.
Wedding morning
I do like the buzz of a wedding morning and there were people everywhere. People upstairs, downstairs, getting ready in the bathroom, as a documentary photographer I was in my element as there was loads of stuff to photograph all of the time.
When I am at a venue like the Woodman Inn, Huddersfield it’s great as everyone is around. I went for a walk and bumped into Kyle and his best man Nathan. Let’s just say Kyle and Olivia are pretty chilled out so everything was all a little last minute, so Kyle had plenty of stuff to do. Emma the florist was running around like a crazy person trying to get everything prepared for the wedding.
Outdoors ceremony
I was very excited to see that Olivia and Kyle had chosen to have an outdoor ceremony, throughout the morning the weather was looking as if it may rain but everything was looking good. Olivia walked down the stairs to her dad waiting and she looked stunning, and it was time to rock! I went down to the ceremony space which looked amazing, and it was now time for the ceremony.
The violinist Emma-Marie Rushforth was playing music to the crowd on my arrival which sounded great. As soon as the bride walked down the aisle in true Yorkshire style the rain made an appearance, however, it didn’t stop the proceedings. The ceremony was lovely, especially the personal vows that both the bride and groom made to each other. As soon as the bride and groom had kissed the heavens opened and the rain came down, however, it didn’t stop the bride and groom from dancing down the aisle.
Afternoon
As a documentary wedding photographer, I spend most of my time walking around and taking unposed pictures of all the guests. I’m always looking for people laughing and smiling so I’m listening out for people telling funny jokes or stories. I’m always keeping my eye on the time as I know that group photographs can take a little longer than people think.
The weather had now decided to behave itself and it was time to capture the group photos. This is an important part of a wedding day, but it certainly doesn’t have to take all day. With the help of a guest (Jason) who gathered everyone, we whizzed through the groups. After the groups, we had time to grab a quick confetti shot which is always a great way to finish the groups.
Room decor
Emma the florist had gone crazy and created a flower paradise. The room looked absolutely stunning, so I had to spend quite a bit of time capturing all of this detail. I did try to catch a bit of everything as I know that the Woodman Inn wanted to use this as a showcase on their website.
Speeches
The speeches were great! Kyle is an introverted person so I knew he was well out of his comfort zone. He did nail his speech though, there were lots of laughs and tears which are perfect for any wedding. The highlight for me though was Kyles brothers speech which was hilarious.
Couple time
After the speeches and Matthew, the videographer took Olivia and Kyle just down the road for a few pictures. Kyle surprised me as he had brought some smoke bombs with him. At this moment I was very happy to have Matthew there as I had never used smoke grenades before so it was great to have a bit of help.
Party time
I love a wedding evening, it’s my chance to play. At this point in the proceedings I have done everything and I know I just have to capture lots and lots of dancing. After the first dance, it went straight into one particular song and everyone went crazy! I knew at this point the evening was going to be good. I love watching people and there was some really interesting stuff going on. I did enjoy this crazy dance that Olivia’s dad and friends did use some handkerchiefs. The rest of the evening I spent capturing dancing until the end.
The wedding was absolutely fabulous, loads of interesting characters and colours on the show and the Woodman Inn did a great job making it a very special day.
Congratulations Olivia and Kyle.
