Katie and Sams wedding, Our Lady of Lourdes, Sheffield
Katie and Sam's wedding at Our Lady of Lourdes in Sheffield was one really special wedding day. To say this wedding was fun would be a massive understatement. The date of the wedding was 07/07/18 which to football connoisseurs will know the importance of the date. I will come on to this later. So I headed over to the bride's mothers house where I was certainly welcomed with opened arms. There was a lovely atmosphere of excitement but still pretty chilled out so it was a fun morning capturing the beginning of the wedding story. I looked out of the window and saw an amazing tuk-tuk outside was this was the bride's transportation to the church. Fortunately, it was only a very short journey. Before Katie set off to the church to get married, we had a bit of fun taking pictures in the street of her in the tuk-tuk, I absolutely love stuff like this.
When I arrived at the church the groom Sam was in good spirits and excited to see his wife to be. I went outside for the arrival of Katie in the tuk-tuk which was ACE, then rushed to the front of the church to capture the bride's entrance. I was waiting and waiting and then there was a bit of shuffling going on, I wondered what was happening! So, I found out that someone had actually forgotten the rings, oh no! I've photographed loads of weddings in my time and this is actually the first time this has ever happened. Fortunately, they were only 5 minutes away so someone rushed off like a heroic superhero to get the rings. It was good that the vicar was finding it funny. When the rings arrived the ceremony went without a hitch.
After the ceremony, everyone headed outside to chuck bits of coloured paper at the bride and groom exiting the building before a 30 seconds walk around to the church hall where the rest of the proceedings were taking place. Katie and Sam had certainly booked the weather as it was beautiful and they'd also had loads of garden games to play with like croquet, giant tennis rackets, Jenga and even target football. Talking about football. The date that I mentioned earlier was when England played Sweden in the quarter-finals of the World Cup. So, what do you do when you have this dilemma do you just hope that people are still going to turn up for your wedding? Are they going to be trying to watch it on their phones and not be present at the wedding? Or do you completely embrace the World Cup and have it as part of your wedding? Well to their credit Katie and Sam did just that, they had a big screen, loads of snacks, comedy hats and just encouraged everyone to watch the match. As long as the game didn't run on to extra time and penalties everything would be great. Wow, what an atmosphere, I sat at the front-facing all of the guests just waiting for the reaction of England scoring and it didn't disappoint, the atmosphere was electric, lots of very happy people dancing and cheering and just getting very jolly. England also won 2-0 which was insane! After the football had finished the pizza van outside just served everyone lots of delicious pizza. In between pizza people were still dancing and singing it was ACE! The speeches were also brilliant, people just got on the mic and sang including Katie's dad who just started to sing an Oasis song! Katie even got up and sang a song and it was like watching The X-Factor!
After the speeches people headed outside and chilled out, I took a few portraits of the bride and groom (nothing forced as it was the last thing that they wanted) and then it was time for the party. Just before the party. During the first dance somehow I got so giddy and managed to split my trousers and when I say split I do mean split, my bum was actually hanging out of them and I was now trying to work out what to do (note to self, always keep spare trousers in the car) fortunately one of Katie's guests (I think her aunty) was a seamstress so I went behind a car, whipped my kegs off and she sewed them up for me (thank you).
Now it really was party time! Wow, what can I say, the band The Leathernecks were the best I've ever seen at a wedding! To say everyone got on the dancefloor and went mad again is an understatement but my word it did get pretty messy but the band was absolutely amazing! After the second set, it was time to leave, this was certainly a very memorable wedding. Congratulations to Katie and Sam and thanks for allowing me to shoot your wedding.
